I am a huge fan of bacon, but I admit I had never heard of candied bacon until I came across this wikihow on how to make it. It sounds as it is described, strange...but it also sounds tempting...
Enough to make me want to buy some bacon tomorrow and try it...
And there is video!

Help for herpes
Another advantage of the internet is when it comes to medical consumer research. If you are concerned about a disease or a virus, you can many times turn to the net for answers to some of your questions. Websites are designed for a variety of these situations like this one on simplex herpes. It's a great way to learn about the warning signs, symptoms and to get advice on treatment options. It does not replace your physician, but it can help you to be more prepared and informed so you'll know what to ask...
Free as in noooo charge...
One of the most asked questions I get as a blogger is "How can I increase visibility and visitors to my blog/website?" One way is of course to go out there and visit other sites and participate, you can eventually build more traffic that way. An easier way is to take advantage of free web directories as a way to increase your visibility and your search term rankings. Many of the free directories only list you for a certain time period, after which you'll have to resubmit your site, so make sure to read the fine print...
Make a Starship Enterprise from a floppy disk
I love the wiki how to tip of the day, but I have to admit finding this one, How to make a Starship Enterprise out of a Floppy Disk had me laughing. Of all of the things to do with those old floppies? I would have never thought to create the Enterprise...They even have video...
Skinny on skin care...
Similar to my advice below, reviews of products can be helpful when it comes to a variety of products, including seeking out skin care product reviews. If you see as an example a review that states this product works well for people with dry skin and you have oily skin? It might not be the product for you or vice versa. You can at times learn valuable information from reviews. As warned below though, there are very few products that garner complete raves, it is always a good idea to make sure you have read any fine print as far as a return policy, just in case your experience with a product is not what you expected...
All about Alli
If you have not heard about Alli, it is one of the latest diet crazes that has swept the nation. Many believe it has helped them become much slimmer. Will it work for you is of course the question, which is why I always recommend looking for reviews on a product. It is very easy to find alli reviews on line. I do however always caution people to take all on line reviews with a grain of salt, if you do not see any negative reviews? Unless the site or that post is particularly new, a huge number of reviews all being raves can mean people are purposely being sought to write positive reviews. Or the rare circumstance when everyone who uses a product loves it...
Advance reported in peanut allergy therapy
I know a few people who have allergies to peanuts, I never realized how many products out there contain peanuts until I was shopping for treat items for one of my children's class parties a few years ago and knew one of their classmates had a severe allergy. Now according to CNN there is an advance in research being promoted where the person is slowly desensitized to peanut products, similar to what is done with allergy shots.

Website names tell it all
When I see people purchase domain names that are long, I always cringe, the idea is to have a domain name that gives a hint to what the site is about or at least one that will be easy for people to remember. A recent example is www.acnesolution.org, it's fairly easy to determine what the purpose of the website is, it focuses on solutions for acne. That makes it easy for consumers/shoppers to remember and also helps when it comes to keyword search engines.
Song associations...
When I think of doorbells I automatically think of this song by Anita Ward (no relation) - Ring my bell. Depending on how you want to theorize what the lyrics mean, it does suggest ringing someone's door bell. I know some will argue that point, but that's what I'm sticking with. :-)
At one point in time in the early 80's it was impossible to go out to the bars and not have this song play at least one time, some nights more than once. It was one of those songs that everyone rushed out to the dance floor to boogey to. Yes, boogey, that's what we did.

Beach houses for less bling...
If you are in a position to buy that second home, you may want to consider looking at some of the distressed properties that are available in many areas. Including popular vacation destinations. There are companies out there that specialize in these types of sales such as Outer banks foreclosures, as one example. While some of us may not like the idea of profiting from another person's misfortune, the reality is that is how many people are buying their first or their second home, through foreclosure sales...
Could the Euro's Days Be Numbered?
Recommended read in Time about the current financial crisis being experienced by Greece and how it could create a failure of the European monetary unit, the Euro. One small part:
And what about the future of the euro? "I think it's quite possible we could see the euro gone in several years — or at least reduced to a currency only used by France, Germany and a few small nations keeping it alive," says Bob Hancké, an expert on European political economics at the London School of Economics. "The problem is that monetary union was never followed up by political union to coordinate budget and taxation practices and create euro-zone institutions and capacities to help member economies adapt to changes and turmoil. The result is member governments are left very few ways to deal with the current attack on Greek debt and the severe pressure that it's putting on the euro."
Yoga cult...
I first read this in the print edition of Rolling Stone magazine since I bought one to read on the flight from Phoenix to Chicago. It's a highly recommended read, and it is now on line. It's amazing how these cults form to profit from others with people not realizing how badly they are being taken advantage of until in many cases it's almost too late. Relationships and years of financial security can be destroyed.

Diamonds in body wash...
You might not think of diamonds in a body wash, instead you probably thing of diamonds as far as other products such as jewelry or even manufacturing. But, diamond dust is used in quite a few products, including make up. It doesn't create a huge amount of glitter as you might imagine but just a soft sparkle, though there are some diamond dust products that do give a more noticeable sparkle. It is just enough though to say you are "sparkly clean."

Advenutres in online shopping with Best Buy...
One of my daughters decided to buy a laptop from BestBuy online. It seemed like a great deal, in part because it was a refurbished laptop. She paid extra for the expedited shipping, the laptop arrived two days later.
So what's the problem? They did not include the AC/adapter part of the system that is required to a) charge it b) use it when it's not charged.
When I called on Wednesday I was told they were going to have to re-ship the full order out again, then I was told that the order had to be sent to a special unit within Best Buy that would contact me, after I pointed out re-shipping the whole order made no sense. I asked if parts just could send one out, she didn't think so, she said they would call me within a day or two.
Today is Saturday, nothing. So I call again.
The next person I spoke with told me that parts should be able to help me, I am transferred to parts, where he says it's not something he can help with that I need customer relations. When I get to customer relations they are going to call parts to see if they can do anything.
On Wednesday the phone conversation lasted less than ten minutes. Today I've been on the phone for almost an hour, being on hold for over ten minutes just to get to the first person, then on hold each time for the next one.
Thankfully though the time on the call was long, once I got to the customer relations person, the problem was solved, well at least I hope so. The needed AC adapter will be shipped out Monday. Yet, that didn't really solve the problem with the additional payment that was made for expedited shipping or the fact that the part is not coming for 5 to 7 business days. Had it been done this way Wednesday? It would have reduced the days necessary. I asked Wednesday if there was not some way they could just send the needed cord/unit through parts...
Problems happen, things are not included in orders, but when someone pays for expedited shipping (or even when they don't) four days should not pass without some type of action. The sad thing is had the cord been included, it would have been a quick and easy shopping experience...

How I watch television...
I don't really watch that much television on the actual "television" -- we don't have cable so I do use one of those digital adapters to get some of the local stations in, though it must be pointed out that those digital adapters don't work very well, I can only really get one station in clearly. Thankfully it's the main one I watch for news. I basically use my computer monitor which is like using one of the led tvs out there to watch movies or television shows online. It's close enough to my bed and large enough that I just turn it a bit and can watch it when I can't sleep...
