Educate yourself on Credit Cards...

My fourth child just turned 18 recently and of course one of the first things she did was start to apply for credit cards to be able to build credit in her own name. I encouraged her to first do some research to see the Available Types Of Credit Cards and to make sure she watched the hidden fees. When she received her first approval, and called to activate the card she went through a very hard sell moment of additional "coverage" that the woman told her she needed, which in reality given her own situation she did not. Thankfully since we have had these discussions and she did do her homework, she did not end up in a situation where she needed to wonder is she was paying too much for her cash back credit card.

Thus far, she's taken the wise advice she's been given by me and by researching to learn about credit cards and the steps to not only build good credit but to know how to choose the right credit card that fits her situation and her expectations. The information is out there so it is not that difficult to become a smart consumer...
