Why I like pre-paid phones...
I don't use my cellphone very often, it's more for just emergency type situations so my children can reach me if I'm not at home or I need to reach one of them when I'm not home. I don't text messaging much at all so for me prepaid phones works out to be a great option. With the small amount of useage I have it's cheaper for me on a monthly basis to stay with my T-mobile pre-paid phone service. I can get minutes online quickly if I start to run low, and they even send me a text message if I forget and the minutes are starting to run down. I spend less than $15.00 a month, and at times less than that with my current phone. If you use your phone alot or if you use text messaging or other cell phone services such as a web browser, then you are better off with a regular long term phone plan. For you a prepaid service would cost more per month since it is a bit more expensive on a per minute basis depending on who you go with to use a pre-paid phone. My daughters as an example, are better off with a regular monthly service contract, their text messaging alone makes that a good value for them as opposed to a pre-paid phone service. Another advantage of the monthly plan is phone offers. Very few of the pre-paid services offer the same neat phones for free that you can get if you sign a two year contract. That is for me one of the downsides to the pre-paid, you do have to pay more for your phone at the beginning. Credit issues can also be a good reason to use a pre-paid, everyone no matter their credit score can get a pre-paid phone. So, like individual tastes on what type of phone you prefer, there are many different options for people in selecting a pre-paid plan versus a monthly contract.
