I'll never use Progressive Auto Insurance again...

My husband had a car that he bought two years ago, it was a 2006 so it was fairly new, he put a downpayment and made payments for two years. Last weekend he was driving home from visiting a dying relative in Connecticut and he hit a bear. Yes, a bear. The car was totaled. First Progressive tried to tell him that we would end up owing over $1,8000 on top of having no new car. They claimed they had "not noticed" that he had paid extra for the loan/lease payoff coverage. However, if you read your fine print carefully, they will only pay 25% over what they feel the cash value of the car is and they valued the car $3,000 less than what it was worth through several sources including Kelly Blue Book.

After they corrected their error in not crediting him properly for the loan/lease pay off coverage, the car is paid off, yet the downpayment, none of the payments made matter and we are left starting all over again saving up for another car.

We still haven't received our items that were in the car, supposedly they boxed them up to send to us since the accident happened several hours from here. I'm not overly confident we will ever receive it with the way this whole process has gone. While the initial accident reporting went smoothly, trying to talk to the person in charge of our claim was frustrating, he never called back when he said he would and his voicemail box was full, so you could not leave him a message.

I would not recommend Progressive Insurance to anyone and when we finally get another car? Progressive will not be our agent.

my wife died in an acident on may 30th 2009 and my kids were both injured in florida. my car was a 2003 and i owed 8700 on it. they did not pay anything because of its ocv. progressive is not there for you in the end. The bills acrued from my wifes death have destroyed me financially. What are you paying for? progressive is a bad company.
