There are actually parts of GPS technology that I think are very helpful, especially when it comes to the ability to get directions and there are some scenarios where GPS Tracking can save lives, especially related to missing persons.
Where the controversy comes in is how far should GPS tracking go? Do employers have the right to check where employees are? Yes, during the work day, it is fairly easy with GPS technology to be able to see if someone is really at the location they say they are. The same could be said for parents, is your child really where they say they are? One click and you could discover that.
Does it ruin trust though, especially involving family relationships...I can see having the ability to track a phone or a car if a person is missing but I'm not sure about using it for non-emergencies. Though in history people have hired detectives to watch a person if something's suspected, this would in many cases be cheaper...
