Well, at least we still have a job not always reassuring...

Recommended article in USA Today about how even those who still have jobs, are finding the statement, "At least we still have a job" not being as totally reassuring as it could be. Even the employed suffering during economic crunch which I know first hand, the assignments for some of my paid blogging has gone down compared to what it was like a year ago and two of my daughters who are waitresses have felt the pinch when it comes to people being less generous with tips. Though I have to say, shame on those who don't tip at all when the service and the food has been good. Another daughter who has a professional position is watching some of her co-workers get laid off and barely escaped it herself. My son's company laid him off several months ago, and he's in competition with many as he continues to look for employment while being placed in a position where he's left hoping just one more former co-worker gets fired or quits so he can go back to work there.

In fact, I know very few people who have not been impacted by our economy both those who are employed and those who are unemployed. I suppose in reading this article, that the phrase that might more closely fit is, "We aren't alone" since many of us have tightened our belts as far as we can...

It is a scary time right now. I also have two family members that have been affected.

As a former server in a restaurant, it makes me angry when people stiff their waiter/waitress on the tip. Do they realize that these people make virtually no base salary? Perhaps if things are so tight that you cannot afford to leave a tip, it would be best to stay at home and save your money.

We went out Friday evening to a movie and a drink afterward with some friends. The waitress spilled a beer all over me and my friend and provided all around pretty bad service. When the check came, I still gave her a good tip. Maybe she was having a bad day. I know sometimes I don't do my best in my job.

I'm not sure I would have left her a good tip, but it is upsetting for my bunch when they wait on tables and end up with no tip. Without having dumped beers on people.

:-)

The scary part is it sounds like we are not over the worst point yet.

I know. It seems like there is no end in sight. Did you see that story about a job somewhere in ohio for a custodian in a middle school. One position available and over 700 applicants.
