Years ago when my children were younger they would spend hours with toy catalogs and store ads to make their Christmas Lists, now my youngest daughter merely sits down at the computer visits her favorite sites and creates a list of where each item is as well as how much the price is. She's been doing this for a few years now, and does this almost year round if she finds something she really wants I'll find a link sent from her in my email box...hinting...
Since I do most of my Christmas shopping online anyway, this makes it even easier for her to have realistic expectations. If an online store is already showing an item out of stock there is less of a chance I'll be running around like a possessed person trying to find that "one" item that she just "has" to have.
