I'm one of those who does not have cable tv and does not have any type of a satellite television service through DirecTV or any other one of the satellite providers. For us it's something that I cut out of our budget earlier in the year when I canceled cable. Trying to get the coupons that you are supposed to be able to get for the adapter has been a nightmare. Supposedly we were sent coupons last year, but we didn't use them because we had cable at the time and they expired. Now, even though they know the coupons were not used, they will not re-issue them. Which leads me to wondering how many other people are in the same position. I don't see the need to have to purchase these boxes if we were supposed to get them for free.
I really don't see why it's necessary in the first place and why they are eliminating access to free television programming which is what they are realistically doing. If I was interested in purchasing something, I'd be one of those looking for DirecTV offers rather than fighting the mighty governmental coupon gods and I'd be spending my time searching to make sure I was getting the best DirecTV deals of the competing companies rather than wonder how to get our dvd player that has a digital channel setting to actually get the sound in...
