CFL player sentenced to prison for not reporting HIV

I understand why the judge decided to believe the two women who testified that Smith did not tell them that he was HIV positive:

Trevis Smith, a linebacker who attended Alabama and later played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, was found guilty to two counts of aggravated sexual assault this month. Judge Kenn Bellerose also sentenced Smith to an additional six months in prison for various bail violations.

Yet where does the responsibility of the two women come in to play? Deciding to have unprotected sex with anyone whether they know they have HIV or not is a pretty stupid move. Especially with some of these sports "stars" that seem to have the reputation for liking to mess around with mulitiple partners.
