Prescription Drug Plan or "PDP," better known to many as Medicare Part D, was created under the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003 (2003 Medicare Act) to help cover the costs of prescription drugs. Prescription drug coverage is offered only by private companies contracted with Medicare through stand-alone plans and through HMOs, PPOs, and PFFSs. Opera and Internet safety

Despite lingering concerns about the U.S. economic recovery, Americans worry more about having their online privacy violated (25%) than declaring bankruptcy (23%) or losing their job (22%). Coinciding with Data Privacy Day today, new survey research by Opera Software in the United States, Japan and Russia examines what people worry about online.

Internet fraud as a result of online privacy violations was among the top four concerns in all three countries, recorded between 22 and 29 percent of respondents. Distress over being hurt in a traffic accident topped the lists in Japan (35%) and United States (27%), while relationship problems kept 40% of Russian respondents awake at night. Relationship drama and pandemics like swine flu tied for second place in Japan's worries (34%).

The online survey, administered by market research company YouGov, aimed to uncover what concerns people have for their online safety and privacy. A thousand or more people in each of the United States,Japan and Russia completed the survey between January 19 and January 24. The figures have been weighted and are representative of all adults aged 18 or more in the three countries.

Antiwar.com launches boycott of Amazon

On Wednesday, the non-profit organization Antiwar.com initiated a boycott of the major online retailer Amazon.com. The announcement came after Amazon abruptly removed the cloud servers used by WikiLeaks, caving under pressure from Sen. Joe Lieberman. The decision left the site down for several hours on Wednesday.

"Unfortunately, it seems Amazon gave no notice to WikiLeaks," said Eric Garris, founder of Antiwar.com, a non-profit foreign policy site based in San Francisco. "Normally, in an ethical and legal business relationship, notice is given when contracts are terminated to allow for smooth transition. In fact, if WikiLeaks had chosen to terminate the contract with Amazon, they would have been required to give 30 days notice. Yet Amazon gave no such notice, they just unplugged the servers."

WikiLeaks condemned Amazon's decision stating if they "are so uncomfortable with the first amendment, they should get out of the business of selling books." A growing number of consumers and groups are vowing to boycott the retailer, including Antiwar.com, which currently receives about $10,000 annually in referral links. As of Thursday, all links and advertisements had been removed, said Garris.

"WikiLeaks has never been charged with any crime by the US government, nor are any charges pending. Quite the contrary in fact, WikiLeaks is providing a valuable public service by exposing the lies and cover-ups of various governments and corporations. They should be supported."

The art of hosting

When I think about the art of hosting it's not a social event, it's website hosting that comes to mind. While the free services like blogger, which I use for this blog is great, there are times when you want to expand beyond it. My most popular blog is a local political one, it's been hosted on it's own domain for several years.

There are things I can do with my own domain using Wordpress, that can't be done on one of the free services. This is especially important if you are trying to launch a business, people associate credibility with you having your own domain name, which requires your own web hosting plan. I recommend checking out the different plans ou there, and for those of you who are environmentally conscious? There are several really good green webhosting companies out there. If I had it to do all over again, that would have been the way I would have gone.

Forced to Facebook credits?

I play some of the games on Facebook, but to me the idea of actually paying money to go faster in the game is silly. Yet, people spend money, lots of money on these virtual games on Facebook. This means it's not surprising Facebook found a way to make money on it or is forcing game makers like Zynga to use their system.

Find the right web hosting...

While this site uses a free hosting service, I have several other blogs that use a paid web hosting system. It was a learning experience in which I made mistakes that are hard to recover from in first exploring the whole managed hosting system.

I learned the hard way that I should have gone with a company that offered experienced technical support. I've lost track of the hours I've spent on the phone, being told that they can't see a problem or blaming the problem on Wordpress plug ins. Which at times can be a culprit, but not always...

I've actually considered having my own server, but I'm at a learning curve when it comes to that. I've learned a bit about colocation so that if that decision is one I opt for, it would provide a higher comfort level and tech support. So, my advice? The cheapest hosting plan is not always the best one, the level of tech support is key because the only thing more frustrating than having your website down, is to have tech support not able to help you get it back online...

Google plots online music sales

Apple may have taken aim at Twitter and Facebook by revealing their new music-based social network Ping at a conference earlier this week, but another competitor may be on the horizon: Google could be launching their own digital music service by year's end, industry sources tell Reuters. Google is considering launching both a music download store and a "song locker service" that would allow users to access their music libraries anywhere, via the internet.

It's asking the right questions...

On any given day it's not uncommon for me to get several requests on where to find answers or information. I'm not the smartest person on the planet, but what I have learned to do is to ask the right questions. Search engines are fantastic but only if you ask them what you really are looking for. If you ask too broad of a question, you'll have a harder time in trying to learn more about a specific topic. Always start with a very specific question, if necessary you can broaden the question, as an example if I want to find information on a person, I don't just put in their name, I put in their name and their company or at a minimum the city they live or work in. That little bit of extra information can help you find things much faster.
