Common sense has left the planet...

While I'm stating that half in jest, it's really hard to not feel as if some of those of us who we share the planet with are a bit lacking in common sense and perhaps just a bit addicted to their instant messaging...When I read the title, Texting and Walking: Dangerous Mix, my first thought was, "no duh!" and then I saw that they are actually padding lampposts in England because people are that stupid, granted it was a publicity stunt but the fact that many people are actually walking into things...

What's next? Padding cars to prevent injuries from those so obsessed with their instant messaging that they don't look to see they are crossing a street?

Before we make fun of the Brits:

It's a debate that New Yorkers joined last year when State Senator Carl Kruger of Brooklyn introduced a bill in Albany to combat "iPod oblivion." His bill, which was prompted by the death of two constituents who were killed crossing the street while listening to their iPods, sought to ban pedestrians from using earphones in crosswalks in New York's large urban areas. The bill languished in committee last year, but the Senator has reintroduced it in 2008.
