Planning too far ahead?

My oldest daughter is leaving for California on Monday, one of her friends is getting married over a year and a half from now and has decided to pick out the dresses now as far as ordering them. Personally given some of the weight ups and downs of some of the girls, that seems a bit too far in advance. I could understand if she was focusing on other details such as bridesmaid gifts or some other part of the wedding that would not involve fittings or items having to be taken in or let out...
