Digital comes to radio...

You might think when you hear the term "HD Digital Radio" that it's some type of a satellite service that you have to subscribe to, but it's not, it's actually a new technology that gives you the ability to hear local radio stations both FM and AM clearer than ever before using digital sound. This means that AM stations would sound closer to FM stations and that FM stations would be CD quality. I actually listened to the difference on the HDRadio.com website.

There's more than just an increase in sound quality. This technology gives you the ability to be able to dock your iPod into a variety of the different units, like the Jensen JiMS 525i and then be able to hit the "tag" button. From how I understand it works after watching the demo is it then shows up on a list so the next time you hook your iPod to your computer, iTunes will find the songs for you. This song tagging technology is one of the reasons why so many people are talking about HD Radio.

I'm not going to pretend I'm an avid iPod user, but my daughters are and I've spent hours trying to help them find a song they heard on the radio. For me that would be a plus but my personal interest is the better sound quality. As a part of my political blogging I do on my other site, I listen to AM radio, it'd be nice to hear it in FM quality...
