Fast the many uses of the word...

Fast can mean many things, fast as in the "Fast & the Furious or fast as in "I fasted for religious reasons." It made me wonder about the origins of the word fast...For most of the time man has spoken the word "fast" didn't relate to speed, it related to something being tight, such as "shutters that are fast against the rain" or fasting as in abstaining from food, hence the whole "breakfast" which was to "break the fast" of the not eating from the night before...which is kind of ironic when you think about fast weight loss products because the fastest way for some to lose weight is to fast...
