A guest post written by Grady Pierson for readers of Unrealistic Expectations:
Senior citizens often avoid using the Internet. It is a shame because there are so many sites they could visit that would benefit their lives. The instant access to information and connection to other people can really improve the quality of their lives.
Senior looking for information to travel can visit the AARP website for travel or other types of discounts. This site also includes many health related articles, a hearing test and money saving tips. Perhaps it is time to clean out the garage or basement. Seniors can make some extra cash selling their items on eBay.
Don’t forget about email and social networking. Making contact with a long lost friend is an added benefit to the Internet. Email also helps control the costs of making long distance calls and shortens the time that snail mail creates.
Senior may wish to shop for hearing aids or other medical devises online to get a discount. Shopping from home also enables the senior who has limited access to transportation to still buy the things that want.
Family historians will enjoy sites like MyFamilyTree or Ancestry. Both these sites offer an incredible amount of family history that will keep any researcher busy for years. Finally, many services can be accessed from the internet that they may not easily use any other way. Online bill pay saves time and money and is an added convenience to anyone’s life. You can reserve library books or tapes so they are available when you get there and avoid making a trip for nothing. You can use the internet to make your life easier. And easier is what every senior deserves.
