Eliminating Saturday mail delivery would take an act of Congress

Despite the fact that the U.S. Postal service is expected to be $238 billion dollars in debt over the next decade, it would take an act of Congress to do one simple cost saving measure -- eliminate Saturday delivery. The reality is this would have very little impact on those who wait for the mail to come to their commercial mailboxes since a good majority of businesses operate Monday through Friday.

It would have some impact on those who rely on the mail coming to their residential mailboxes but service would continue five days a week. Personally, I wonder about keeping Saturday delivery, and eliminating Monday delivery. It would prevent the scenario where on Monday holidays those expecting mail delivery to their mailboxes would miss two potential delivery days instead of one.

While Congress is not expected to act this year, since we know no matter what the U.S. Postal system will continue in some fashion, those of you interested in replacing your mailbox with one of the many new mail boxes out there, have many options.
